Crash tested dog crate for car travel

Thule Allax is designed for safe car travel and has been crash tested from both the front and rear. A potential rollover situation has also been simulated as part of the testing process.

The innovative crumple zone provides 10–13 cm of additional space at the rear of the crate, even when the crate is set to its lowest position. In a rear-end collision, this zone compresses to help absorb impact energy and provide additional protection for your dog.

Choosing the correct dog crate size is important for your dog's comfort, safety and wellbeing during travel. Your dog should be able to sit, stand, turn around and lie down naturally inside the crate.

The crate should not be unnecessarily large, however, as excessive space can allow your dog to slide or move around too much during travel.

Will Thule Allax fit your vehicle?

Measure your vehicle's cargo area carefully before choosing a crate. The adjustable depth makes fitting easier, but the shape and dimensions of the cargo area should still be checked.

1. Measure the cargo depth

Measure the distance from the back of the rear seats to the end of the cargo floor. In hatchbacks and SUVs, also check where the tailgate begins to curve inward.

2. Measure the cargo height

Measure from the cargo floor to the lowest point of the tailgate, door or roof. Take note of any low edges or structural features that could interfere with the crate.

3. Check the tailgate threshold height

Thule Allax fits vehicles with a tailgate threshold of up to 40 mm.

The threshold-adapted Thule Allax version accommodates higher thresholds:

• XS: up to 170 mm
• S, M Compact, M and L Compact: up to 245 mm
